TACTICAL MEDICAL

MISSON: To foster a sense of service for our community by introducing cadets to a variety of aspects of the medical profession as future health care providers in both civilian and military services taught by a comprehensive team of of qualified and experienced military, veteran and civilian medical staff. 

GOALS:

The goals of the training are for the cadet to feel confident in their ability to assess/assist in an emergency situation. With the skills learned in CPR/First Aid. That they gain more knowledge related to military medical career options.

PREREQUISITES:

  1. The cadet must pass the E-1/Indoctrination Polaris Advancement Course (PAC) and the unit Recruit Orientation (RO) prior to registering for, or attending RT. Cadets are strongly encouraged to complete the E-2/Seaman Apprentice PAC prior to attending, along with attending RT and Basic Medical (preferably with the TN/AL Training Group).

  2. The cadet must pass a Physical Readiness Test (PRT) prior to being released to attend training. The unit CO’s endorsement of the request for training in Magellan, certifies the cadet is physically prepared for training.

  3. Minimum age 14 years old

  4. The cadet must obtain the required uniform items (Sea Bag List) and comply with directives as prescribed by the Commanding Officer of the Training Contingent (COTC).

CIRICULUM:

  • Introduction to Life Guarding

  • Tactical Casualty Combat Care

  • Triage and Patient assessment

  • Mass Casualty

  • IV Therapy

  • Wound Care

  • Splinting/Tourniquets/Back boarding

  • Care Under fire/Casualty Evacuation

  • Radio Communications

  • Tactical Movement/Weapons Handling

  • Blood Typing

EVALUATIONS:

Each Cadet will be evaluated upon completion of the training using the following standards and graded accordingly:

  1. Teamwork - Prioritization of team over self; willingness to help others; interpersonal skills.

  2. Communication - Being able to communicate effectively.

  3. Motivation - Drive; enthusiasm; esprit de corps.

  4. Adaptability - Ability to adapt to the Environment; mental agility; ability to bounce back from setbacks; ability to take and learn from criticism.

  5. Safety - Being able to complete all the task assigned in a safe manner.

  6. Final Exam - A final exam on the academic portions in final scenario form.
